Safety Information

Please read this information carefully before using any Chiller Body cooling hat insert. This page describes age and supervision guidance, medical precautions, proper use, and conditions under which use should be discontinued.

Read Before Use

Chiller Body cooling hat inserts use phase-change material that activates at 65°F (18°C). Cold-temperature contact products carry inherent risks. Improper use, use without supervision by minors, or use by individuals with certain medical conditions can result in skin irritation, cold-related injury, or other adverse reactions.

Age and Supervision Guidance

Chiller Body is designed for adult use. We do not recommend use of Chiller Body cooling hat inserts by children under the age of 14 without direct adult supervision.

Chiller Body cooling hat inserts are not intended for use by children under the age of 8 under any circumstances. Younger children have smaller body mass, more sensitive skin, and may be unable to recognize or communicate signs of cold-related discomfort.

Coaches, athletic directors, parents, and event organizers planning to use Chiller Body with youth athletes, school groups, summer camps, or any group that includes minors should review this entire page and incorporate it into their supervision plan. Adult supervisors should periodically check on each user, monitor for signs of discomfort or skin reaction, and ensure the insert is being worn correctly.

Medical Precautions

Consult a physician before using Chiller Body if you have, or believe you may have, any of the following conditions:

  • Raynaud's syndrome or any peripheral vascular disorder
  • Cold urticaria or any cold-induced allergic reaction
  • Peripheral neuropathy or any condition that reduces sensation in the head, scalp, or neck
  • Circulatory disorders, including diabetes-related circulation issues
  • Open wounds, rashes, recent surgery, or broken skin in the area where the insert would be worn
  • Sensitivity or known adverse reaction to cold
  • Any condition that affects your ability to recognize or respond to discomfort

If you are pregnant, recovering from heat-related illness, or under medical care for any condition that affects thermal regulation, consult your physician before use.

Proper Use

  • Always wear inside a hat, hard hat, or helmet. Chiller Body is designed to be worn between your headwear and your head — never directly against bare skin.
  • Inspect the insert before each use. Do not use if the insert is damaged, leaking, ruptured, or shows signs of wear that could expose its contents.
  • Activate by chilling in a freezer for 2–3 hours, or by storing in a cooler with ice. Do not heat the insert, microwave it, or expose it to flame.
  • Remove the insert and take a break if you feel any of the warning signs listed below.
  • Do not bite, chew, puncture, or attempt to disassemble the insert. The phase-change material inside is not intended for ingestion or skin contact.
  • Keep inserts away from young children and pets when not in use.

When to Discontinue Use

Stop using Chiller Body immediately and remove the insert if you experience any of the following:

  • Pain, burning, stinging, or persistent discomfort at the contact area
  • Numbness, tingling, or loss of sensation in the scalp or surrounding skin
  • Skin discoloration, including unusual paleness, redness, or a bluish or grayish tint
  • Itching, hives, swelling, or any allergic-type reaction
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, or nausea
  • Any other reaction that is unusual or concerning

If symptoms persist after removing the insert, seek medical attention. If a leak or rupture results in skin contact with the phase-change material, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water and contact a physician if irritation occurs.

Heat Illness Disclaimer

Chiller Body cooling hat inserts are designed to provide cooling comfort and to help reduce the buildup of heat under headwear. They are not a medical device and are not a substitute for hydration, rest breaks, shade, acclimatization, supervisor monitoring, or any other element of a complete heat illness prevention program.

Chiller Body makes no claim that its products prevent, diagnose, treat, or cure heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or any other heat-related illness. Workers, athletes, and outdoor users in high-heat environments should follow OSHA, NIOSH, and sport-governing-body guidance, and should consult their employer's, school's, or organization's heat illness prevention program.

Storage and Handling

  • Store inserts in a cooler with ice during use, or in a freezer between uses, to maintain phase-change activation.
  • Inspect inserts periodically for wear. Replace any insert that shows signs of damage, leakage, or material degradation.
  • Do not expose inserts to sharp objects, open flame, sustained high heat, or microwave radiation.
  • Store out of reach of young children and pets.

Bulk and Program Buyers

Safety managers, athletic directors, coaches, event organizers, and any organization deploying Chiller Body to crews, teams, schools, or events should:

  • Distribute or reference this Safety Information page during onboarding for any user.
  • Confirm hard hat, helmet, or PPE compatibility with your existing safety program before deployment.
  • Ensure adult supervision is in place for any user under 14, and exclude users under 8 from deployment.
  • Establish a clear process for users to report discomfort, request a break, or remove the insert without penalty.
  • Maintain a written record of any incident or reaction reported during program use.
